Raison D'Etre: Listen
Be True
(Raison D'Etre)
by Roberta Schultz
I taught high school for 18 years where I was privileged to share HAMLET with soon-to-graduate seniors. This was my farewell to them.

1. A girl has gotta do whatever a girl has gotta do
Nobody else can walk this planet or change your stars for you
There’s a world out there that will steal your innocent dreams from you
Piece out your crazy quilt plans and rip out the seams so blue
So, if you’re asking for my advice,
Just ask me once, and I’ll tell you twice:
Be true, be true
Let no one paint a face on you
2. A guy has gotta do whatever a guy has gotta do
Nobody else can read the blueprints unfolding for your view
There’s a world out there that will steal your innocent dreams from you
Punch out the light in your eyes and muffle your screams so blue
So, if you’re asking for my advice,
Just ask me once, and I’ll tell you twice:
Be true, be true
Let no man force a mask on you
Bridge
Although we care so much
None of us can walk this road for you
But on the sidelines we’ll be hoping
Your friends will always be there hoping
3. A friend has gotta do whatever a friend has gotta do
Be there to lend my ear or turn a mirror toward you
‘Cause there’s a world out there that will steal your innocent dreams from you
Dark out the light of the sun and filter its beams to blue
So if you’re asking for my advice, just ask me once and I’ll tell you twice:
Be true, be true
The captain of your soul is you
